HUDA Metro Station

New Delhi: The DMRC on 3rd July, Monday said HUDA City Centre station on the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line will be renamed Millennium City Centre, hours after announcing that it will be rechristened Gurugram City Centre.

The station is in Haryana’s Gurugram, a thriving IT and commercial hub in the National Capital Region (NCR) known as Millennium City.

Earlier that day, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tweeted, “A decision has been made to rename the HUDA City Centre Metro station on the Yellow Line as Gurugram City Centre.” As a result, the process of changing the name on all official documents, signage, and announcements has begun and will be completed gradually.” According to sources, both the Haryana and the Central governments have requested that the station be renamed.

A few hours later, the DMRC issued another tweet, stating, “In partial modification of the earlier announcement regarding the renaming of the HUDA City Centre Metro station on Yellow Line, it has now been decided by competent authorities to rename the station as Millennium City Centre” .

A senior DMRC official stated that the process of changing the name on all official documents, announcements, and signage has begun and will be completed gradually.

Officials did not say why the station was renamed.

The HUDA City Centre metro station serves as the terminus of the 49-kilometer Yellow Line.

The other end of the corridor is the Samyapur Badli metro station in northwest Delhi.

The elevated HUDA City Centre metro station, which is part of the Qutub Minar-HUDA City Centre segment, opened on June 21, 2010.

Many Delhi Metro commuters wondered why the station was renamed.

HUDA METRO STATION GURUGRAM

“I do not understand why the station needed to be renamed. One plausible explanation is that the local government wanted the name ‘Gurugram’ to gain popularity following Gurgaon’s rechristening. But changing the old name was unnecessary,” said a Gurugram resident who frequently uses the metro to get to work in Delhi.

“I work in Delhi and use the metro frequently. “I occasionally park my motorcycle at HUDA City Centre station and take the metro to work,” he explained.

Another Gurugram resident whose office is in Delhi questioned whether the renaming was necessary at all.

She described HUDA City Centre metro station as a massive station with numerous commercial establishments and office spaces housed in an adjacent complex.

“Imagine how much it would cost to change the name on signs and documents. Furthermore, the pre-recorded announcements made on metro premises will need to be changed,” she said.

Another commuter stated, “Huda City Centre is not even a controversial name.” I’m curious as to why the authorities decided to rename it.”
